Collection
The Canadian Cord Blood bioRepository’s collection procedures are simple and non-intrusive. We stress that the collection of umbilical cord blood is subject to the delivering physician or midwife’s discretion. Those medical practitioners that judge it dangerous to their patient’s health will not undertake the cord blood collection at the time of birth. Anyone registering for cord blood storage or donation of any kind should be aware of this possibility.
Despite this, the vast majority of cord blood collections go smoothly.
